A brave railway staff member who intervened to protect travelers during a mass stabbing incident on a high-speed train has sustained critical injuries, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

CCTV footage allegedly depicts the employee attempting to halt the assailant as the train journeyed between Peterborough and Huntingdon in the county. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with injured victims running through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Authorities announced a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

The event on Saturday night led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have since been released from medical care.

“The driver didn’t halt the service in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously challenging for the first responders to access, but he carried on traveling until he got to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much already there,” explained a association official.
