England's Bowling Consultant Southee Uncertain on Ashes Participation

Tim Southee's last Test for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.

England bowling consultant Southee is still working through what his involvement will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The former Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be available for the first Test because of his involvement in the International League T20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.

Southee, 36, assumed a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the summer after taking 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Speaking as England's squad for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, he said of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.

"We will determine the outcome over the next little while."

English bowling legend Stuart Broad had stated the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the series, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"The team's attention is squarely on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is excellent.

"It should be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

However, prior to England travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
